UNLOCKING THE MYSTERIES OF REVELATION

Using the Keys of the Feasts of the Lord

by Carlton & Mineer

PREFACE

We began studying the book of Revelation nearly 20 years ago, separately and whenever possible for long days together. Beginning with microscopic examination of word meaning and symbolism we labored tirelessly. By this means we continued for many years, discovering wonderful insights into the Word of God but never really unlocking the mystery of this book.

Then, we discovered the Feasts of the Lord celebrated in the Tabernacle and the subsequent Temples. Having been so long steeped in the language of Revelation, the language of the Feasts seemed immediately familiar to us and suddenly opened a floodgate of understanding.

As Gentile Christians we frankly were ignorant of the Jewish culture. As we began to research the subject of the Feasts we found ourselves in the midst of Jewish laws, traditions and folklore. At times they seemed a people laboriously legalistic and superstitious, but ultimately we were thrilled and inspired by a people who know and love their God.

It is not the writers' purpose to give credence to Jewish apocryphal works or Jewish legend. These things are noted to give enlightenment regarding word usage and thinking during the times of the biblical texts noted. Much insight can be gained by examining the scriptures in the context of their Jewish setting.

As we began to explore Jewish sources we were amazed that our findings led us to new insights into the things Jesus did and said; for he was a Jew speaking to Jewish people. In researching the celebration of the Feasts, we were often confused by sources that gave conflicting accounts of the form and content of the traditions. In truth the rituals underwent changes from generation to generation. While the nation enjoyed a fixed territory in their God-given land and with a standing Temple, they celebrated in one manner. Dispersed throughout nations in captivity and exile they developed other traditions. It is not our purpose to follow these changes sequentially; it is apparent that by God's guidance many profound truths were instituted and preserved through these changes. We have endeavored to bring to you the most prominent aspects of the Feasts that prevailed throughout our sources.

We found, through surveying, that most Christians have little knowledge of the Feasts and think of them as being a part of the Mosaic Law that has passed away in the New Covenant. However, the Feasts established by God are described and decreed in Leviticus 23 as a "lasting ordinance for the generations to come, wherever you live."

Viewed in the light of Jesus, the Feasts of the Lord are not so many strange rituals that the Jewish people observed back in the Old Testament. They are the connecting points to other revelations in His Word, as well as the evidence that the Word is Divine in its authorship. Each part fits perfectly into the other and they all point to Him in whom the love of God was manifested.

This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 1 John 4:9, 10

God was so faithful to meet us each time we came together to study and we know that He will meet you when you begin to study the Scriptures and read through this book. We believe you will discover keys for unlocking passages that may have been a mystery to you in the past.

It is our goal to provide you with an understanding of the Feasts. With this information placed solidly in your grasp, we will take you into the book of Revelation where you will begin to see the fulfillment of Jesus' work through the Feasts.

As we put together the myriad of information gathered over years of research, we realized how much we have yet to learn. Through each step of the way in the development of this book, the Lord proved himself Faithful and True and we were each strengthened in our Christian faith. We hope you will likewise be strengthened in your faith.
